Teeth Whitening in Franklinville, NJ

The Teeth Whitening Trend

Professional teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive cosmetic treatment used to enhance the shade and beauty of your smile.

Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth. Also, keep in mind that teeth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Why Choose Teeth Whitening?

There are a number of reasons that our Franklinville patients choose teeth whitening, including:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

How Do Teeth Get Stained?

There are a number of reasons your teeth might get stained or discolored over time. These reasons might include:

  • Aging
  • Smoking cigarettes
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Eating dark fruits like blueberries
  • Drinking red wine, coffee, soda, and tea
  • Taking certain medications
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Genetics

What Does At-Home Teeth Whitening Involve?

NiteWhite Teeth Whitening, or NiteWhite AC, is a home whitening system. This type of teeth whitening usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom clear plastic trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile. This kind of teeth whitening may be best for you if you have sensitive teeth or want more control over the whitening process.

Zoom Teeth Whitening

Zoom Teeth Whitening is a form of laser treatment, lightening the staining or discoloration of your tooth enamel. This simple, non-invasive dental procedure usually takes about an hour and can be completed in one visit.

The process uses a special lamp called a Zoom laser and a hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel. Dr. Gottlieb will bleach each tooth, resulting in a brighter smile immediately. Zoom Whitening does not affect the physical structure of your teeth.

Sapphire Teeth Whitening

Sapphire Teeth Whitening is a quick and easy process performed at Franklinville Dental. It usually takes about an hour, including the 15 minutes to set everything up.

First, your gums are covered in a protective gel. Next. Dr. Gottlieb applies a hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth. The gel is light-activated by the Sapphire light. Once the treatment is complete, the gel will be removed and you’ll have noticeably lighter teeth.
