What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are made of thin porcelain shells that are bonded over your teeth to enhance the natural beauty of your smile.
Each porcelain veneer is customized to the shape and color of your teeth in a professional dental laboratory. This durable, cosmetic treatment can completely reshape the appearance of your teeth and smile. Veneers can also be used as an alternative to dental crowns, making them the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions.
Why Get Porcelain Veneers?
At Franklinville Dental, our patients choose porcelain veneers for many reasons, such as:
- Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile
- Crooked teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Misaligned, uneven teeth
- Teeth that are too small or too large
- Severely discolored, yellow, or stained teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
- Unwanted or uneven spaces
- Worn or chipped teeth
How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?
Getting veneers usually requires two visits to our Franklinville Dental office, with little or no anesthesia required during the procedure. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and the dentist.
On the second visit, your teeth will be cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond.
You’ll receive care instructions for your dental veneers. As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful, long-lasting smile. Daily brushing and flossing, as well as scheduling regular dental checkups will aid in the life of your new veneers.
What Are Lumineers?
Lumineers are a type of veneer that’s thinner, and in most cases, don’t require buffing or removal of enamel. While they’re similar to veneers, Lumineers are a lot thinner but very durable.
Since Lumineers are so thin, Dr. Gottlieb won’t have to remove any of your healthy, natural tooth enamel.. Lumineers also eliminate the need for drilling, shots, or temporary acrylics, and can be reversible.
